I'm sitting here laughing to myself as I recall a completely air-headed thing that I did a few weeks ago. We spent the long holiday weekend at the beach and after a completely blissful 8 hours on the sand, we headed to the car to drop off our beach gear and grab our clean clothing so we could change into dry clothes and walk the pier for the evening. My phone was almost dead, so I hopped into the driver's seat to give it a little boost to get me through the next few hours. I touched up my make up and just soaked up the air conditioning for a few minutes while Handsome Pants and the kids goofed off outside the car. After I found my zen and got some juice on my phone battery, I hopped out of the car and off we went to find adventure.

Fast forward to three hours later, as we strolled back to the car and I approached the driver's side (if you know me you know I always drive when we go out as a family). I hit my clicker to unlock the door and then took a big, unintentional step backward because MY CAR WAS RUNNING. What in the world?! I don't have remote start on this vehicle and I was holding the keys in my hand, so I was completely confused. I went around to the passenger's side to interrogate my poor husband, who obviously had nothing to do with it, and that's when it hit me. I had never turned the car off after my zen/charge-up/lipstick application and it had run, in the parking lot, for the entire three hours. What an idiot!

I reasoned that the only way this could have possibly happened is because this vehicle is new to me and I didn't have push button start on the minivan that I drove for 7 (long) years. I couldn't leave that car running and still exit with keys in hand, but in this one I sure could! My husband is such a kind soul and didn't yell at me or make me feel bad like I probably would have with him. I have such high standards for others sometimes, and often even higher for myself, but I promise it's something I'm working on. I tend to overreact and he doesn't. It's as simple as that. All he did was laugh and say it's a good thing we had a full tank of gas and got into the passenger's seat. But you and I both know that wasn't the last I'll ever hear of that flighty move. And boy, do I deserve it. Lauren really did it up big that time. 🤪

What's the most absent-minded thing you've ever done? There is catharsis in sharing our flaws and mess-ups, so I promise to always share mine. Lay yours on me, too.
